Daydream Island is part of the Whitsunday Islands Group, nestled in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef. Just one kilometre long and half a kilometre wide, Daydream Island is one of a few inhabited islands in the Whitsundays.
One of the Whitsundays’ most spectacular holiday spots, Daydream Island Resort reopened in April, 2019 after being closed for nearly a year. The resort was severely damaged after Cyclone Debbie tore through the region in March 2017 and for the 24 months since has undergone considerable renovations.
Inspired by the picturesque North Queensland island, Daydream Island Resort has been designed by architects Hunt Design to reflect the relaxed, outdoorsy and quintessentially Australian lifestyle. “We wanted the new Daydream Island Resort to reflect the beauty of its surroundings through the architecture, design and dining direction,” says Daydream Island Resort’s general manager Dawson Tang.
Kaynemaile collaborated with Hunt Design to design a large chandelier for the main atrium and entrance to the resort. The chandelier is comprised of three Kaynemaile hanging screens suspended from the 20-metre-high roof of the atrium. The two larger screens encircle the centre screen to create the tiered design. The 9-metre-long chandelier which utilises 165m2 of Water Clear mesh creates a striking centrepiece as you enter the resort.
