The Perfect Shading Material on show at Expo 2020 Dubai
The first spectacle of architectural design to be encountered by visitors to the Expo 2020 Dubai is our soaring kinetic shade canopy over the visitor arrivals hall at the new Dubai Exhibition Centre. Featuring over 120,000 square feet of Kaynemaile shade screens in four colours, the canopy offers a cooling 70% shade protection for the visitors as they queue at the entrance.
The fluid, wave movement of the canopy screens creates a calming sensory experience triggered by air passing throughout the space and creating an interplay of shadow and light both on the ground and throughout the mesh layers overhead. We call this the ‘WonderCool Effect,’ bringing life and movement to static architectural spaces around the world.
The Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), commissioned Woods Bagot Dubai to design the Dubai Exhibition Centre and the dramatic entrance canopy. Kaynemaile was selected to produce the canopy shade screens after a rigorous prototyping and testing phase. This gave the client confidence that our mesh screens could offer substantial shading and withstand the harsh climate and environmental conditions of the location.
Kaynemaile worked closely with DWTC to provide the design and engineering support needed for a project of this nature. As well as the significant shading properties the Kaynemaile screens provide an economical backdrop for creative, dramatic lighting effects designed by CD+M Lighting Design Group, making this a seriously cool multisensory experience.
